Dr. Neelakshi Mahanta, MBBS, MD (Med), WHO Fellow i Geriatrics Guwahati.

Career Summary: I am Associate Professor in Internal Medicine, with 20 years of clinical and teaching experience (post-MD) at Gauhati Medical College & Hospital, Assam, India which is a 2000 bedded tertiary referral Government teaching hospital with both medical undergraduates and post-graduates and is also the largest medical college & hospital in the North Eastern region of India. I am also a faculty and Programme-in-Charge for the course of Post graduate Diploma in Geriatric Medicine run by Indira Gandhi National Open University(IGNOU). I have a number of publications (both national and international) to my credit and was also involved in a WHO sponsored multi-centric study by Govt. of India on “Health Problems in Elderly” published in 2007.I have undergone a training in Medical Gerontology at Malta under the aegis of UN and am also a WHO fellow in the subject of “Aging” from Thailand. I was also a Group Study Exchange Scholar selected by Rotary and went on a Professional Exchange Program to Canada in 2004. I am the current Joint Secretary of Indian Academy of Geriatrics and I am a member of the National Advisory Board for Geriatric Medicine of the Journal of Physicians of India. .I have been a topper in all the three MBBS Examinations held by Dibrugarh University with distinction in 5 subjects, and was awarded the President of India’s Silver Medal for the same.
