The World Elderly Day was celebrated on 1st October 2016. A special camp was conducted for the elderly at 22, Paper Mills Road, Perambur, Chennai- 600 011. It was inaugurated by 90 years old Mrs. Joan Manuel.
Several elderly patients were screened clinically by Dr. Neelakshi Mahanta, MD(Med), WHO Fellow in Geriatrics and Former Joint Secretary of Indian Academy of Geriatrics (IAG). She inaugurated the Geriatric Case Sheet specially developed for Geriatric use in India. She also inaugurated the web version of this specially developed and designed Geriatric case sheet for web use.
Many elderly patients attended the camp. All of them underwent a thorough physical examination. After screening, various ailments were detected. All these ailments were addressed and advice regarding treatment were given. Further all their concerns regarding their age related and various other issues were addressed. They were thoroughly counselled and given appropriate advice, guidance and treatment.
All necessary steps were taken to ensure that proper and optimal quality of life could be maintained for those who attended the camp. Counselling was tailor made to each individual's requirement. This was carried out by the Geriatrician, Physiotherapist and dedicated counselors. It had been finally decided that this group would be followed up on a regular basis.
